Water Taxi - make your reservation early; there is a limit of 6 people per high tide/ per day. The Bear Glacier Water Taxi departure times very everyday and are timed with the ocean high tides. Please email of call for departure times for your date or you can also look at our
Seward Weather web page about halfway down there is a tide table. Seward departure is about 1 hour before high tide time and pickup at Bear Glacier is at the high tide. The water taxi starts running trips around 5:00am until about midnight. Times before or after these times are not available. Some days in the month there is only one high tide during the operating times so a one-day trip is not available on those dates unless you choose the helicopter transportation option. Please note, you need to plan on arriving at the Seward Small Boat harbor early. It is important that we depart on time so our arrival time at Bear Glacier is at the high tide. It’s about 45 minute ride out to Bear Glacier.
Helicopter Transportation – an added scenic flightseeing trip to Bear Glacier and paddling around the big icebergs makes for an awesome Alaska adventure. The helicopter offers the most flexibility. You can choose any departure times between 7:00am and 7:00pm. Unlike the water taxi where the rates are per person the helicopter rates are based on per flight. There is limit of 3 passengers or 600lbs per flight. Even though rare, weather delays, the helicopter has an advantage with less chance of weather delays. The helicopter can go in and out of Bear Glacier Lagoon on days when the waves are to big for the water taxi to go in. It’s about 15 minute flight out to Bear Glacier.
A 2 to 3 day stay is recommended to fully enjoy this paddling paradise.
