Winter Hurricane Turn Flagstop Train - Alaska Railroad
Unlike the summer Hurricane Train that departs for Talkeetna, the winter train departs from Anchorage. This makes the winter Hurricane Turn Train an excellent choice for a day trip from Anchorage, either to spend a day exploring Talkeetna, or simply to enjoy a round-trip full day of winter landscapes by rail.
The Winter Hurricane Turn Flagstop Train has limited winter service and only operates on the1st Thursday of the month, October through May. A short multiday winter visit to Talkeetna or a winter camping, snowshoeing, and skiing adventure is an option with a connection to the Winter Aurora Train on the return trip.
The Hurricane and the Winter Aurora Train’s unique flagstop service lets you get on or off the train anywhere along its route from Talkeetna to Hurricane and is ideal for outdoor winter activities, winter camping, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Residents living in remote cabins can flag down the train for the return ride south. The once-a-month Thursday schedule allows off-gridders to spend Friday running errands or visiting friends in Anchorage before catching the northbound Aurora Winter Train back to their cabins.
Unlike all other Alaska Railroad trains, there is no dining service on the Hurricane Turn. Passengers are encouraged to bring their own meals aboard.
Here is what you can expect once you step onboard the Hurricane Turn Train
- Large picture windows
- Forward-facing reclining seats
- Non-smoking cars
- wheelchair access
