Alaska Railroad - Passenger Train Service Summer And Winter
The Alaska Train - You'll know from the very moment you climb aboard the Alaska Railroad you're riding on the best train in the world. The charm and scenic appeal of this great and vast land is amplified through panoramic windows and underscored by historical narratives of lifelong Alaskan conductors and Alaska Railroad tour guides that play a major role in making the Alaska Railroad a preferred means of travel. They'll make sure you don't miss out on any historical or scenic points of interest. The scenery is world-class and you will watch the drama unfurl in the comfort of forward-facing seats, classic recliners, or sneak peaks of the breathtaking wilderness from one of the many outdoor viewing areas. Satisfy your wanderlust going from circa-50s style coaches, to the upper dome cars to the dining car. There is no restaurant in Alaska that can match the view.
In the summer months the Alaska Railroad runs passenger services from Anchorage north on the Denali Star Train to Talkeetna, Denali National Park and Fairbanks and going south on the Coastal Classic Train to Seward, and the Glacier Discovery to Whittier. For cruise ship passengers, there is a connection for arriving and departing passengers in Seward and Whittier on the Alaska Railroad. And the Glacier Discover Train heads south to Whittier for cruise ship passengers and continues on to Spencer Glacier and Grandview. This is great choice for those just wanting to take a round trip scenic Alaska Railroad tour.
You can choose from the Adventure Class seats (standard seats) or
Gold Star Dome Car seats (first class seats). The Adventure Class seats have a dining car where meals can be purchased. The Gold Star Dome car seats include meals that are served in the lower private dining area. The Gold Star seats offer the best views with the upper dome glass seating that also features an outside viewing platform.
For Gold Star Dome seats make your reservation early because these seats sell out well in advance. Even though the Gold Star offers the best views, there is not a bad seat on the train. The Adventure Seats have large windows so you will still get great views of Alaska's vast wilderness along the way.
In the winter months, there is the weekend Aurora Train that runs north to and from Fairbanks. And the Hurricane Turn Train is a flag stop train for folks that live in Alaska’s remote wilderness along the train track.
