Cook Inlet - Lake Clark, Alaska
1-Day Fly-In Bear Viewing And Fishing Combination From Seward, Alaska
A Backcountry Safaris exclusive, the only combination bear viewing and fishing trip departing from Seward, Alaska.
This trip combines our exclusive Seward fly-in bear viewing trip with a little salmon fishing. What an amazing Alaska experience, fishing with the bears. Our fly-in bear viewing locations are populated with large numbers of bears, both brownies and blacks. The bear viewing areas are located on the west side of Cook Inlet, just a 30 to 40 minute flight from the float plane base in Soldotna, Alaska. These short duration flights equate to more viewing time for your adventure.
We start the day off with an early departure from Seward, Alaska. We will make a quick stop to pick up a box lunch for your trip (included). The drive to the Soldotna floatplane base is about a two hour drive from Seward. This is a scenic drive and we will make photo stops along the way.
In Soldotna, the turbo-powered ten passenger DeHavilland Otter on floats or the nine passenger turbo-powered Cessna Caravan on floats will whisk you away from Soldotna and 30 minutes later your bear viewing and salmon fishing adventure begins. What species salmon you catch will depend on when you come. Fishing starts around June 10th and runs through the end of July for Red Salmon (sockeye) and the Silver Salmon (coho) start arriving around July 15th and run through September.
You will get about 5 hours on the ground watching the bears and fishing. And of course, this means you should bring extra camera batteries because the action can be nonstop during your entire visit. These Alaskan brown bears (and some blacks) are there to fish for sockeye salmon and teach their cubs how to eventually do their own fishing when they are older.
After flying back to Soldotna we’ll drive back to Seward arriving in the late evening making for a full day adventure.
Fishing tackle is included with this adventure. You will still need to purchase a fishing license. That can be done online in advance or purchased at the float plane base in Soldotna before flying out.
